Their mission is to generate and assist in the creation of employment opportunities in the City and County of Peterborough. Community Futures accomplishes this mission primarily by supporting small business with flexible loan programs, business development grants and business counselling services.
Since 1985, Community Futures Peterborough has: invested $24 million in small business enterprises assisting over 700 businesses and created or maintained more than 2,600 jobs.
Located at 351 Charlotte Street in Peterborough, Community Futures is a community-based, not-for-profit corporation (incorporated as the Greater Peterborough Business Development Centre, Inc.) Governed by 16 local volunteer board of directors familiar with local business needs, concerns and future development priorities.
Highlighted for their small business loans, business expansion grants and small business supports – they are not just giving a loan. Community Futures encourages all of their loan applicants to meet with their existing financial institution first to seek additional support with business advisory services and mentoring. Furthermore, Community Futures can often partner with banks, credit unions and Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) to put together the best financing solutions for their clients.
Additionally, they are the proud sponsor of the Kawartha Chamber’s Young Professional Business Award of Excellence. The Award is presented in memory of longtime General Manager, Judy Heffernan.
