Introducing the Chamber’s 2018-19 Board of Directors!

Board Executive

Board President, Tonya Kraan, Strexer Harrop & Associates

Tonya is the co-founder and COO of Strexer Harrop & Associates. Strexer Harrop is a consulting firm that works with municipalities, non-profits and small business owners to create and execute economic development & marketing strategies. Tonya is a process improvement specialist and a registered Salesforce Consulting Partner. She designs and implements solutions to streamline business processes including customer service, sales, marketing and project management. In addition to the Kawartha Chamber, Tonya has served on the boards of directors of Easter SealsWomen’s ResourcesKawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation, and the Local Employment Planning Council Business & Industry Working Group for the Workforce Development Board.

1st Vice President, Mike Walker, Agilec

Born and raised in Peterborough, and a graduate of Fleming College and Trent University. Mike is an Employer Liaison with Agilec in Peterborough & Lakefield. His work involves working with hundreds of local employers to hire and train staff as well as access training grants for their employees and expand their business capacity. The aspect of his work that he is most passionate about is working with small to medium sized businesses which steered him to get involved with the Kawartha Chamber Board of Directors. He has previous Board experience with the Peterborough Youth Emergency Shelter (YES) from 2010-2015 acting as the Vice Chair as well as Chair of the Communications and Human Resource committees.

2nd Vice President, Tracy Logan, Logan Tree Experts

Tracy and her husband Matt own and operate Logan Tree Experts, a fully insured tree care service in the Kawartha region. Tracy is a Certified Arborist and manages the Tree Health program at Logan Tree Experts. Originally from Southwestern Ontario, Tracy moved to her husband’s hometown of Lakefield in 2007 to start the business and they became members of the Chamber in 2009.

Treasurer, Kevan Herod, Herod Financial Services

Kevan owns Herod Financial Services with offices in Peterborough and Lakefield. Kevan is a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter, Tax and Estate Planner, Chartered Investment Manager Certified Farm Advisor, Trust and Estate Practitioner and Chartered Financial Consultant with over 35 years of experience. Kevan has observed that the most successful businesses have taken the time to understand investment and insurance fundamentals, manage their emotions, ignore the media hype and stick to a long term plan. Kevan works with partners whose interests are aligned with his clients, hence the tag line, “In Your Best Interest.”

Past President, Cindy Windover, Windover Plumbing

Cindy was born and raised right here in Selwyn Township, and together with her husband owns/operates Windover Plumbing Inc. With 2 grown children, Cindy sees the need for a strong business community that will help our area thrive and thus ensure jobs for the next generation. Cindy believes in getting out and being involved in the community in whatever capacity she can make a difference.

Casey Kidd, Savage Arms

Casey hails from the Ottawa Valley and relocated to Peterborough 8 years ago to begin a career in employment services. She first became involved with the Chamber through her employment with Agilec, and worked primarily with the wonderful employers in Selwyn township. She has been involved in local initiatives with literacy and job development. For the past year, Casey has been in the role of HR Generalist at Savage Arms in Lakefield and serves on the HR& Governance Chamber committee. In her spare time, she has enjoyed a competitive curling career and spending time with her husband and 4 year old daughter.

Chris Wilson, Let’s Get Digital

Chris has worked primarily in public service and self employment. He has gained much experience over the years in running small businesses, and in the challenges that are presented to both new and existing businesses. Chris started Let’s Get Digital, part-time, 20 years ago. As the business grew to a full time operation, he passed the reins to David, and now has more of a supporting role. Chris has previously worked with all three levels of government and sat on numerous boards. He has been trained and worked in governance, management, oversight, public policy and community service. Chris also brings a strong technical background and looks forward to continuing his work with the Board and membership.

Tom LaBranche, Village Pet Food & Supply

Tom has lived in the Kawarthas all his life in various locations in Peterborough and the previous Smith Township. He and his wife have two daughters and five grandchildren. Work experience has included marketing office equipment and printing. Five years ago Tom’s family started Village Pet Food & Supply. He has over 30 years of experience serving on volunteer boards including Five Counties Children’s Centre, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Rotary. Tom is proud to be able to serve the members of the Kawartha Chamber and looks forward to watching you grow.

Garry Douglas, Kawartha Lakes Construction, North Kawartha Design

Garry was born and raised in Thunder Bay and spent most of his life living and working in Northwestern Ontario. For over 23 years as a small business owner, Garry successfully designed, built and managed residential, vacation, commercial and large civil construction projects. After relocating to Apsley in 2002, he opened his new small business – North Kawartha Design. In March of 2014 Garry & North Kawartha Design partnered with Scott Wootton and the talented team at Kawartha Lakes Construction. Garry understands the small business environment as well as the challenges and opportunities presented in small market communities. He looks forward to bringing both his business and previous Chamber experience to the members of our Chamber.

Jillian Harrington, Clearview Cottage Resort

After growing up in Young’s Point, Jillian Harrington has returned to her roots as a third-generation resort owner/operator at Clearview Cottage Resort. She has always valued the hard work of her local community, previously holding a role as Marketing and Membership Coordinator for the Kawartha Chamber. With her degrees in Communications, Education and Behaviour Science, she understands how these interact in order to best serve the community. After years as a classroom teacher, she is back to continue the family passion of providing other families the chance to create memories. While giving her own family the opportunity to experience the connections and care that a small town provides.

Leslie Nunes, Kinetic Therapeutics

Originally from the GTA Leslie moved to Young’s Point in 2017. Leslie has been treating people with many different soft tissue injuries for over 15 years.  With her in-depth knowledge and expertise as a Registered Massage Therapist, Kinesiologist and Personal Trainer, Leslie uses both hands on techniques and active movements to ensure that proper rehabilitation is achieved. Thus allowing a safe and quick recovery and a return to normal function. Leslie is excited to work with other local businesses and immerse herself in the community.

Lynn Woodcroft, Sales Representative, Royal LePage Frank Real Estate

Lynn has lived in the Kawartha region for 32 years. For the past 20 years, she has enjoyed living on Buckhorn Lake. She returned to school as a mature student and obtained her B.Sc. in Biology and Environmental Science with strengths in aquatic ecology. After several years of contract work in her field, Lynn worked for Parks Canada for the next 3 years. She is currently a sales representative for Royal LePage Frank serving cottage country and the Peterborough area. Lynn currently sits on the boards for Kawartha Lakes Steward Association and The Buckhorn Community Centre both of which she is very passionate about. When not working Lynn enjoys the outdoors, fitness and all her pets.

Penny Wilson, The Cozy Home

Penny was born and raised in London, Ontario and moved to the Buckhorn area 3 years ago after all the kids moved out to attend university.  She co-owned and managed a car dealership for 21 years but when the kids left she decided to leave London to live on the lake. Penny lasted only 8 months on early retirement before she decided she needed a challenge at which point she decided to open her home decor store The Cozy Home in Lakefield.  She discovered Lakefield when she started playing in the Lakefield Ladies Hockey League 3 years ago and fell in love with the town.  Penny states moving to the Kawartha area was the best decision she ever made and looks forward to being involved with the Chamber.

Scott Matheson, CIBC

Scott grew up in Toronto and studied Advanced Business Management at Seneca College.  In 2010, he moved to Peterborough with his wife Kathryn and dog Daisy.  Scott joined the CIBC team at the Lansdowne and Monaghan location in January of 2012.  In June of 2016, he assumed the role of Manager of CIBC Lakefield and is very much enjoying being involved in the community.  When he is not at work, Scott enjoys golfing and cooking.

Sheri Hockaday, Salon Sorella & Day Spa

Sheri was born and raised in Lakefield, and chose to stay and raise her family here in this community. Sheri has been pursuing her passion as a hairstylist for 33 years. In 2009, she was ready to open Salon Sorella & Day Spa along with her sister-in-law and business partner Rhonda Hockaday. They are located in the heart of Lakefield, and have a team of 17 experts and are consistently growing. Sheri is blessed to live and work in Lakefield.
