President’s Notes – October 2017

Well we’re now through our busy tourist season and into fall – pumpkins, mums, and scarecrows are starting to pop up everywhere! And I love it!

Just because summer is over, doesn’t mean there aren’t still fantastic local things happening: Pumpkin Festivals and Fall Fairs to name a couple, so make sure to get outside and take in some of the wonderful Autumn colours with these great events.

On September 20th, we had the “Buckhorn Hop.” Attendees had the opportunity to visit 3 businesses in Buckhorn; Buckhorn Canoe Company, Style Your Nest, and Gallery on the Lake, while enjoying great food and socializing with amazing people. Please watch for more of our events (see Save the Date) and make sure to get out to them… they are one of the best ways to get to know our area and all the incredible and diverse businesses we have.

The Awards of Excellence Gala is coming up November 3rd, and with over 80 nominations, the judges will have their work cut out picking finalists and recipients. Thanks to everyone who submitted a nomination and watch for the list of finalists in the next couple of weeks.

As I write this, the tragic shooting in Las Vegas has just happened, the worst in U.S. history, and not to be too negative, but it’s reminding me that we all need to work together and strive for peace and unity. Life is a gift and we need to look after each other, even if opinions differ.

As always, watch for your NewsFlashes and upcoming events. Thanks to Sherry and the office staff who work so hard to make things run smoothly and always greet people with a friendly face.

And this quote doesn’t apply to any of you, because I know how hard our business owners work, but it’s one of my favourites.

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas Edison
