Taking a New (Virtual) Path

These uncertain times have forced many of us to stop, change direction and start off again on an entirely new path from where we thought we were heading. Vacation plans were cancelled, holidays and weddings were limited to family units or small groups of close contacts, even funerals were limited in number and became virtual affairs. With increased regulations, it is not surprising that education also had to change course. In the last year, parents have become educators, educators have become virtual teachers and school buildings have been temporarily closed. At Lang Pioneer Village Museum, our Christmas and spring school programs have always been a popular choice for educators and homeschoolers looking to break out of their traditional learning environment for a day of educational fun. However, with such instability, we knew that traditional field trips were not on the horizon so we needed to bring Lang’s 19th-century experience into a 21st century-format.

Greening Your Business

This January the Kawartha Chamber partnered with Selwyn Township to hold a webinar series called Greening Your Business! Environmental Programs Intern, Hillary Bradshaw and Climate Change Coordinator, Anna Currier of Selwyn Township along with our Membership Coordinator, Tracy Beverley, hosted two sessions surrounding topics to support small businesses in undertaking green initiatives.

President’s Notes – Winter 2021

Hello, fellow Kawartha Chamber members,

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and was able to decompress and enjoy some time with family. Unfortunately, the world did not turn back to normal when the clock struck 12 on New Year’s Eve and we continue to deal with the impacts of a pandemic.  It’s very disappointing that activities over Christmas caused COVID-19 numbers to increase and we are back in another state of emergency and stay-at-home order to bring them back down. The businesses in our area are continuing to suffer and finding it harder to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

So what can we do?

A Digitally Savvy Business is No Longer a “Nice To Have” – It’s The Key To Survival

Uncertainty has defined the last nine months. As COVID-19 cases are once again surging across Canada, the economic optimism from the summer has been put on hold and businesses are now bracing for scaled-down operations and potential closures.

Once more as the pandemic wears on, it continues to exacerbate the digital divide present in the small and medium-sized business market, forcing companies to consider the technologies they have (or don’t have) in place. It’s clear digitalization is no longer a choice for businesses, it’s a necessity.
