This summer will be unlike any we have experienced before. We may not be welcoming guests from afar, but this is the perfect opportunity to stay closer to home. You can have a fabulous ‘staycation’ right here in the Kawarthas!
It is more important than ever to support local and to help those businesses who have been hit hard these past few months. Tourism is a huge part of our local economy, and with the hardship that all have experienced, we need to place a priority on spending holiday dollars within our community.
Book a Vacay
There may not be the usual festivals, concerts or events; but there are still plenty of ways to have fun this summer while supporting local! One way to get that vacation feel is to book one right here in the Kawarthas! You can have a summer getaway without travelling far! Book a weekend or a week or two at a B&B, cottage resort, campground, inn or hotel – there’s something for everyone!
Eat Your Way Through Town
An easy way to support local and enjoy what our communities have to offer is by checking out nearby restaurants. It can be as simple as having take-out once a week or be more adventurous and eat out for an entire week trying a different local patio for every meal! Purchase locally grown, fresh ingredients at the Lakefield Farmers’ Market for those new recipes you perfected during isolation.
Be A Tourist
There are many rural towns – Apsley, Bridgenorth, Buckhorn, Curve Lake, Lakefield, Young’s Point or Warsaw – to stroll and explore their history, unique shops and eateries. Never visited some area attractions? Do it this year and be a “local tourist.” Follow @KawarthaChamber for ideas.
This summer won’t be like our usual, but by supporting local it can still be a great one!
