Meet Your 2017-18 Board of Directors

Board President: Cindy Windover, Windover Plumbing
Cindy was born and raised right here in Selwyn Township, and together with her husband owns/operates Windover Plumbing Inc. With 2 grown children, Cindy sees the need for a strong business community that will help our area thrive and thus ensure jobs for the next generation. Cindy believes in getting out and being involved in the community in whatever capacity she can make a difference.

1st Vice President: Tonya Kraan, STREXER
After a 20-year career in senior business development roles, Tonya Kraan launched her own business, STREXER, in 2016. STREXER is a business development consulting firm that works with small business owners and non-profits to become more profitable by developing sales & marketing strategies. In addition to the Kawartha Chamber, Tonya has served on the boards of directors of Easter SealsWomen’s ResourcesKawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation, the Water Research & Innovation Network, and is presently the Chair of the Local Employment Planning Council Business & Industry Working Group for the Workforce Development Board. STREXER is the only Registered Salesforce Consulting Partner in the Kawarthas.

2nd Vice President: Tom LaBranche, Village Pet Food & Supply
Tom has lived in the Kawarthas all his life in various locations in Peterborough and the previous Smith Township. He and his wife have two daughters and five grandchildren. Work experience has included marketing office equipment and printing. Five years ago Tom’s family started Village Pet Food & Supply. He has over 30 years’ of experience serving on volunteer boards including Five Counties Children’s Centre, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Rotary. Tom is proud to be able to serve the members of the Kawartha Chamber and looks forward to watching you grow.

Treasurer: Kevan Herod, Herod Financial Services
Kevan owns Herod Financial Services with offices in Peterborough and Lakefield (formerly Karl Moher Investments). Kevan is a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter, Tax and Estate Planner, Certified Farm Advisor, Trust and Estate Practitioner and Chartered Financial Consultant with over 35 years of experience. Kevan has observed that the most successful businesses have taken the time to understand investment and insurance fundamentals, manage their emotions, ignore the media hype and stick to a long term plan. Kevan works with partners whose interests are aligned with his clients, hence the tag line “In Your Best Interest.”

Brian Harrington, Clearview Cottage Resort
Brian grew up in Young’s Point and attended Lakefield College School, leaving to play hockey in Ottawa & Peterborough for the 67’s and the Petes. He attended Queen’s University and earned his P.Eng., while working at Rockwell International in Gananoque. Thirty-five years ago, he traded his three piece suit as a chemical engineer for a bathing suit so he and his wife Rita could take over the family business, Clearview Cottage Resort. This allowed them to move to this area and together, raise their 3 children. This area has so much to offer. It is a great place to live, work and shop. It will be a pleasure to help spread the message.

Bryan Kingdon, ISL Insurance Brokers
Bryan was born and raised in Lakefield and returned to the area in 2002 after graduating from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2000. In 2004 Bryan began his career at ISL Insurance Brokers in Peterborough and became a partner in 2009. ISL Insurance Brokers has provided auto, home and business insurance in the community since 1949 and today has 22 staff with two of the four partners being third generation. Bryan looks forward to the opportunity of serving our community through the Kawartha Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.

Chris Wilson, Let’s Get Digital
Chris has worked primarily in public service and self employment. He has gained much experience over the years in running small businesses, and in the challenges that are presented to both new and existing businesses. Chris started Let’s Get Digital, part-time, 15 years ago. As the business grew to a full time operation, he passed the reins to David, and now has more of a supporting role. Chris has previously worked with all three levels of government and sat on numerous boards. He has been trained and worked in governance, management, oversight, public policy and community service. Chris also brings a strong technical background and looks forward to continuing his work with the Board and membership.

Garry Douglas, Kawartha Lakes Construction, North Kawartha Design
Garry was born and raised in Thunder Bay and spent most of his life living and working in Northwestern Ontario. For over 23 years as a small business owner, Garry successfully designed, built and managed residential, vacation, commercial and large civil construction projects. After relocating to Apsley in 2002, he opened his new small business – North Kawartha Design. In March of 2014 Garry & North Kawartha Design partnered with Scott Wootton and the talented team at Kawartha Lakes Construction. Garry understands the small business environment as well as the challenges and opportunities presented in small market communities. He looks forward to bringing both his business and previous Chamber experience to the members of our Chamber.

John Penny, JC Penny Accounting & Tax Services
John was born in Brantford, Ontario and spent most of his life in the York Region area north of Toronto. He studied Accounting & Finance at Seneca College. John has lived in the Lakefield area for 10 years. He has a Certified Bookkeeper designation from the Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping. John operated Bucky’s Books & Things in Buckhorn for 7 seasons with his wife Candy. He worked for local accounting firms until December 2012 when he opened my own business. John was the KCCT Treasurer for 2 years; 2014 & 2015. He offers bookkeeping services to businesses and income tax services to individuals.

Mike Walker, Agilec
Born and raised in Peterborough, and a graduate of Fleming College and Trent University. Mike is an Employer Liaison with Agilec (formerly Northern Lights Canada) in Peterborough & Lakefield. His work involves working with hundreds of local employers to hire and train staff as well access training grants for their employees to expand their business capacity. Mike says, the aspect of his work that he is most passionate about is working with small to medium sized businesses which steered him to get involved with the Kawartha Chamber Board of Directors. Mike has previous board experience with the Peterborough Youth Emergency Shelter (YES) from 2010–2015 acting as the Vice Chair as well as Chair of the Communications and Human Resource committees.

Scott Matheson, CIBC
Scott grew up in Toronto and studied Advanced Business Management at Seneca College. In 2010, he moved to Peterborough with his wife Kathryn and dog Daisy. Scott joined the CIBC team at the Lansdowne and Monaghan location in January of 2012.  In June of 2016, he assumed the role of Manager of CIBC Lakefield and is very much enjoying being involved in the community.  When he is not at work, Scott enjoys golfing and cooking.

Sheri Hockaday, Salon Sorella & Day Spa
Sheri was born and raised in Lakefield, and chose to stay and raise her family here in this community. Sheri has been pursuing her passion as a hairstylist for 33 years. In 2009, she was ready to open Salon Sorella & Day Spa along with her sister-in-law and business partner Rhonda Hockaday. They are located in the heart of Lakefield, and have a team of 17 experts and are consistently growing. Sheri is blessed to live and work in Lakefield.

Tracy Logan, Logan Tree Experts
Tracy and her husband Matt own and operate Logan Tree Experts, a fully insured tree care service in the Kawartha region. Tracy is a Certified Arborist and manages the Tree Health program at Logan Tree Experts. Originally from Southwestern Ontario, Tracy moved to her husband’s hometown of Lakefield in 2007 to start the business and they became members of the Chamber in 2009.
