Remembrance Day in the Kawarthas
Read information below on Remembrance Day Ceremonies in our 6 local communities.
Bridgenorth, Buckhorn & Lakefield
On the advice of RC Legion National Headquarters there will be no gatherings this year in Lakefield, Buckhorn, or Bridgenorth. Watch for the Br. 77 Lakefield Legion’s Facebook Live Event being streamed on Remembrance Day at 11:00 am. They will observe ‘The Act of Remembrance’ and two minutes silence from our homes. Wreaths will be pre-arranged and displayed to honour our Veterans and show that ‘We Remember’ the countless sacrifices that they made.
Please do NOT attend until later in the day on November 11 to view the wreaths and take time for silent reflection while maintaining physical distancing and adhering to other health protocols.
In lieu of an in-person gathering this year, the organizers of the Remembrance Day Ceremony are preparing a prerecorded video of the ceremony which will aired on the Township YouTube channel starting at approximately 10:45 am on November 11, 2020. A link to the video will be provided in November on the Township website.
In the video, a single wreath will be placed at the Cenotaph to represent all the organizations and individuals who typically gather in Warsaw to pay their respects to our fallen heroes and veterans. Organizations and individuals that typically place a wreath will be noted at the end of the video.
Organizers ask that residents and guests remain at home to view the Ceremony online rather than visit the Cenotaph in-person on November 11. They understand that some individuals will still visit the Cenotaph despite this request and for those individuals they will have organizers on-site to help maintain a safe environment for all.
This year the Legion cannot hold an in-person ceremony but will be hosting a virtual ceremony on November 11. There will be a live feed from the Legion on the Apsley Legion Facebook page.
It will begin at 10:45am and run for approximately 30 minutes.
November 11 at 11:00am there will be a video live stream on the Curve Lake First Nation Facebook page
. If you do not have Facebook, the National Ceremony will be televised on all major Canadian networks. However you wish to participate, it is encouraged to participate in the Two Minutes Silence from home. The wreaths will be prearranged and on display at the Cenotaph on November 11, 2020.
Although there will not be a ceremony in Curve Lake this year, you can visit the Cenotaph throughout the day to pay your respects, observing social distancing protocols.
