Our Business After Hours: Bridgenorth Hop took place last night, and we had an amazing evening networking and learning about businesses in Bridgenorth. We explored Style Boutique, TCB Office Furniture & Supplies, Pioneer Water Conditioning, Bridgenorth Deli and Whelan’s Flooring Centre.
We were joined by Chamber members, non-Chamber members, members of our Board of Directors, Deputy Mayor of Selwyn, Sherry Senis, as well as two candidates running in the upcoming Municipal Election for the Township of Selwyn, Ron Black and Andy Mitchell. Thank you to all who came out!
And thank you to our Networking Event Sponsor Blue Diamond Window Cleaning.
Bridgenorth sits along Chemong Lake and, with so many great businesses, it is a great town to stop in! It is just a short drive (around 10 minutes) from surrounding Ennismore, Lakefield and Peterborough.
Stop #1 – TCB Office Furniture & Supplies
We began our night at TCB Office Furniture & Supplies. Butch Bellhouse started the business in 2011 after he recognized a need for ergonomic office solutions that everyone could access, from home offices to multi-level corporations. With help from his wife Charlene, they opened up their storefront at 827 Ward street two years ago, but they are quickly outgrowing the location!

At TCB, you will find both new and used office furniture as well as a great selection of office supplies! They also offer other services for businesses such as office relocation, office furniture repair and cleaning, as well as office design.
Charlene and Butch pride themselves on running an environment-friendly business. By selling used office furniture, they are effectively diverting furniture from the landfill; instead of throwing away an old office chair, TCB Furniture & Office Supplies will fix the wheels and refurbish the base, making it as good as new for resale.
Fun fact – TCB stands for Taking Care of Business (inspired by Elvis!)

Stop #2 – The Bridgenorth Deli
For the next stop on our Bridgenorth Hop, we took a short walk over to the The Bridgenorth Deli. Here, we were greeted by owners Jody Katzman and Chris Bright. The shop was buzzing with customers stopping by to pick up dinner.
The Bridgenorth Deli opened four years ago this November, and brings in quality local products as well as specialty items from Europe, and have a great selection of meats and cheeses. They are currently working on bringing in even more local products to the store.

The Bridgenorth Deli also offers flexible catering for events – just call the store at (705) 292-5444 or stop by the storefront at 871 Ward Street! You will find that their catering is very flexible. Also, if you are in need of a turkey, ham or prime rib for Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter dinner, The Bridgenorth Deli will take your order!

Sandwiches tend to be the biggest seller for The Bridgenorth Deli but you will also find an amazing selection of homemade schnitzel, soups and meat pies! When asked about his favourite sandwich on their menu, Chris recommended the ‘Stanley,’ which is made with roast beef, Montreal smoked meat, pealmeal bacon and old cheddar. The sandwich was inspired by the Stanley Cup game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames, with the roast beef paying homage to Calgary; the smoked meat to Montreal; and, the peameal bacon and cheddar to Canada.

Stop #3 – Style Boutique
After visiting The Bridgenorth Deli, we made our way down the street to Style Boutique! Greeted by Diana Carter at her storefront at 827 Ward St, we learned all about what the Style Boutique has to offer.
Style Boutique has been in business for almost 11 years and carries great Canadian brands for women. Diana focuses on selling timeless designs in women’s fashion that will carry over season after season.

On the main floor, there is a great selection of women’s clothing from the current season. Then moving upstairs, you will find a dress room where they will help you find the perfect dress for any occasion, from casual all the way to mother of the bride. Style Boutique also keeps a detailed record of their customers style preferences and sizing, making their customers’ shopping experience easy and hassle-free.
Style Boutique caters to women, typically over 25 years-old, who are looking for mature fashion choices with real women sizing. Style Boutique also offers alteration services for both men and women; they will pin the item in-house for you and then send it out to their seamstress.

Stop #4 – Pioneer Water Conditioning
For our fourth stop on our Bridgenorth Hop, we walked over to Pioneer Water Conditioning, which is located at 827 Ward Street Unit 3. Here, we were joined by David, who talked with us about what Pioneer Water Conditioning has to offer.

Pioneer Water Conditioning has serviced greater Peterborough and the Kawarthas since 1989, and offers a great selection of water conditioning services for cottages, farms, residential homes and businesses. They will help you with all your water condition problems, from hard and soft water issues to iron and sulfur issues.

Stop #5 – Whelan’s Flooring Centre
Our last stop of the evening was Whelan’s Flooring Centre at 2512 Chemong Road. The business started in 1985 as a subsidiary of Peterborough Carpet Land. Since then, Whelan’s Flooring Centre has become the premier retail flooring store in Peterborough and the Kawarthas.

At Whelan’s Flooring Centre, they offer a complimentary shop-at-home service as well as free estimates on all flooring. Whelan’s prides itself on ensuring quality work by expert, licensed and insured installers and reliable service that is on-time, courteous and respectful. Visiting their storefront, you will find an awesome selection of styles and colours to choose from.

After hearing from Chris Whelan about the business, we spent the rest of the evening networking and enjoying refreshments provided by The Bridgenorth Deli. It was such a great evening!
Our next Chamber event is our Business Owners Sharing Solutions: Team Building taking place on October 2nd at Camp Kawartha from 5-7pm. The event is free so it is a great opportunity for business owners to bring along their staff to learn about team building! Register here.
